LALCV Endorsements

Our endorsement process begins with research into which races present the greatest opportunity to advance environmental protection in a particular city. We examine the timing of the election as well as our human and financial resources available to inform and run the process. We then take a close look, where information is available, at the environmental balance on the particular city council. Questionnaires are prepared to reflect environmental issues specific to the city being examined and are sent to all candidates.

Current Endorsements

With 88 cities, 5 board supervisor districts, and a variety of incorporated areas, there is almost always an ongoing or upcoming election in LA County that we are researching or playing an active role in.
Please check out our Current Endorsements.

Past Endorsements

We have a long history and successful record of supporting environmental candidates in cities all over LA County. Some cities have had a history of environmental degradation paired with a city government that has lacked the will or interest in safe guarding its constituents from pollution. Such races have required more of our attention and resources than in other cities where protecting the environment is taken very seriously.

Our archive of Past Endorsements demonstrates our successes and failures in a variety of these cities throughout the years.

Candidate Instructions

All candidates for a particular City Council or Mayoral race are given an opportunity to participate in the LALCV endorsement process. Every effort is taken made to insure that all candidates for a particular race are notified and given ample time to respond. Then, a panel of Board Members is convened to review candidate questionnaires and to interview qualified candidates. (LALCV rules require any Board Member with a conflict of interest to recuse themselves from participating in the endorsement recommendation process). The panel then makes its recommendation to the full board and endorsement follows the affirmative vote of the Board of Directors.
