Sandra Hamlat
Sandra Hamlat is an environmental planner whose interests include the environmental revitalization of the metropolitan Los Angeles region. Specifically, she works to increase the provision of and access to urban open space and foster the use of renewable energy. Sandra currently serves as a planner for a land conservation organization, the Baldwin Hills Conservancy, and sits on the board of directors for the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters.
In her current position, Sandra manages various projects, including administering grants as well as environmental review. She also provides technical expertise and advises the governing board as to the suitability/viability of potential projects. Sandra helps community, environmental, and private organizations balance the sometimes conflicting needs for short-term energy independence and long-term environmental quality
.Prior to Sandra’s current position, she worked for several years in the private sector as a consultant. In addition to project management, she prepared environmental review documents for urban park and brownfield projects. Sandra also worked on the team that created the Los Angeles Multi-family building recycling program.
Sandra has worked for other private and public environmental organizations throughout California on various projects dealing with planning, composting, recycling, and land conservation. Her educational background includes a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from UC Irvine and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Economics and Policy from UC Berkeley.
