Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters endorses Nikki Perez and Tamala Takahashi for Burbank City Council
LOS ANGELES (October 20, 2022)– The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – supporting pro-environment candidates throughout Los Angeles County – announced its endorsement of Nikki Perez and Tamala Takahashi representing Burbank City Council.
“LALCV is proud to endorse Nikki Perez and Tamala Takahashi who will ensure a more climate resilient future for the City of Burbank. Takahashi is a long-time environmental advocate in Burbank. She co-founded “Reusable Burbank”, and with this group, co-authored a comprehensive plastics ordinance that will be presented to council in early 2023. Perez has experience as a nonprofit manager, social worker, and community leader. She loves the outdoors and is committed to clean air, reducing emissions, renewable energy, and active transit,” said LALCV President Shona Ganguly.
“Working on the Green New Deal for Burbank, I was able to work alongside residents, business owners, and the sustainability commission to make sure we addressed the largest environmental issues facing Burbank. Our city is poised to be a true environmental leader, we just need the right leaders in office. I cannot wait for the opportunity to further and expand that collaboration at the city. I’m grateful to the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters for their support of and trust in my candidacy!” said Nikki Perez.
Tamala Takahashi is an avid transportation activist, working towards a multi-modal transportation system in Burbank, to not only make streets safer and more accessible for all, but also to reduce miles traveled by car and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. She also worked with fellow advocates to incorporate the Green New Deal into the city’s greenhouse gas emissions plan, and has been a partner with the Recycle Center to help increase composting access and practice in residential communities.
“I am honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of the LALCV. As a full-service charter city, Burbank has a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of environmental policies. It is essential that our community is actively committed to clean air, sustainable water usage, and plastics and waste reduction, with collaboration and transparency. If elected, I look forward to partnering with the LALCV, neighboring cities, and local organizations to work together for a healthier world today, and a sustainable future for our children and their children,” said Tamala Takahashi.
