LOS ANGELES COUNTY (September 20, 2020) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – which has supported pro-environment local candidates throughout Los Angeles County for over four decades – today announced its endorsement of Lance Simmens, Doug Stewart and Steve Uhring for Malibu City Council in the upcoming November 3rd election.
“As a long-time environmental practitioner, Lance Simmens would bring to the Malibu Council extensive knowledge of environmental issues and solutions,” said LALCV Director Kirsten James, who led the organization’s endorsement team for this race. “This experience would help generate creative solutions to address Malibu’s many environmental challenges.”

“Doug Stewart sees environmental issues as deeply engrained in the DNA of Malibu residents and plans to support these values,” said James. “He would prioritize issues such as reducing plastic pollution and protecting wildlife.”

“Steve Uhring would serve as a custodian of the area’s natural resources,” added James. “If elected, he would prioritize environmental protections and ensuring the City is prepared for climate impacts and other challenges down the road.”

As a coastal community with significant visitor traffic, Malibu faces many environmental challenges, with frequent periods of drought and climate change creating additional pressures. The recent wildfires have created additional environmental challenges.
