LOS ANGELES COUNTY (September 20, 2020) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – which has been supporting pro-environment candidates throughout Los Angeles County – announced its endorsement of Leticia Vasquez-Wilson and Sara Huezo for Central Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors.
The Central Basin Municipal Water District is a water wholesaler in Southeast Los Angeles County that provides water for approximately 2 million residents. The Central Basin was established by a vote of the people to help mitigate the over-pumping of underground water resources in the region. In 1954, Central Basin became a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The Met provides the Central Basin with imported water from the State Water Project and the Colorado River. The Central Basin, as an agency and through its membership in the Met, play an incredibly influential role in water policy, which is why we need to elect environmental leaders like Leticia Vasquez-Wilson and Sara Huezo.
“We are delighted to endorse Leticia Vasquez-Wilson for her re-election campaign for Division 4 of the Central Basin and Sara Huezo in her campaign for Division 5. Leticia Vasquez-Wilson has consistently been a strong voice for the environment, from her time on the Lynwood City Council to her years on the Central Basin, where for many years she served on the influential Metropolitan Water District Board of Directors. Sara Huezo is similarly a strong advocate for the environment and has been incredibly involved in Paramount’s fight against Chromium-6 and has a record of advocacy on water,” said Juan Muñoz, LALCV board secretary and lead for the endorsement team.
“I am so proud and honored to receive the endorsement of LALCV for my re-election to the Central Basin Municipal Water District Division 4. It means a great deal to me to have the confidence and support of environmental leaders in our region. I remain committed to working collaboratively as we continue to protect our environment,” said Leticia Vasquez-Wilson.
“As a water and environmental advocate, I am truly grateful for the endorsement and trust of the LALCV. I am sincerely grateful that the organization is amplifying grassroots campaigns like mine. As a Director for Central Basin Municipal Water District, I commit to protecting our water resources and ensuring access to clean and affordable water in a way that does not hurt our sensitive ecosystems,” said Sara Huezo.
