LALCV Endorses Mitch O’Farrell and Hugo Soto-Martinez for City Council District 13

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) — which has supported pro-environment local candidates throughout Los Angeles County for more than four decades — is proud to announce its dual endorsement of Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell and Community Organizer Hugo Soto-Martinez in the upcoming June 7 Primary election for Los Angeles City Council District 13.

Both O’Farrell and Soto-Martinez bring unique experience and ideas on how to continue combatting climate change locally. As the second most populous city in the country, Los Angeles has a responsibility to act boldly on environmental issues. Los Angeles needs real leaders with knowledge on land use issues, building decarbonization, single-use plastics, public transit, and other critical environmental issues.

“As chair of the Los Angeles City Council’s committee on the environment, I am grateful for the endorsement from the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters,” said Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell. “Los Angeles is boldly leading in the fight against the climate crisis, and we are paving the way for other cities to follow. I am proud to lead our efforts, including: the most ambitious renewable energy plan of any city in the nation (LA100), phasing out single-use plastics, building energy decarbonization, electrifying all City vehicles, investing in public EV infrastructure, and making all City facilities and events ‘zero waste’ — just to name a few. We have much more to do.”

“As Chair of the Energy, Climate Change, Environmental Justice, and Los Angeles River Committee Councilmember O’Farrell has led on many environmental issues during his time on the council,” said endorsement team member and Board Secretary Juan Muñoz. “From his work on the Los Angeles River revitalization to LA100, Councilmember O’Farrell has valuable knowledge on combatting the climate crisis here in Los Angeles.”

LALCV is also endorsing Soto-Martinez.

“As a campaign that is community-centered and that champions equity, I am honored to receive the LALCV endorsement because it validates my commitment to fighting our impending climate crisis. I am committed to fighting for getting our city to 100% clean energy by 2030, for a just transition that involves creating 10,000 climate jobs by 2026, for capping and cleaning our districts oil wells, and for fare-free public transit,” said Hugo Soto-Martinez.

“Hugo Soto-Martinez brings an important perspective to this race as a longtime union organizer that will be able to bring labor and environmental organizations together to combat the climate crisis locally,” said CD 13 Endorsement Team Member and Board Secretary Juan Muñoz. “Hugo understands that fighting this climate crisis should be a city-wide mobilization and that we have the opportunity to create many good quality jobs in the process.”
