LOS ANGELES (July 7, 2022) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – supporting pro-environment candidates throughout Los Angeles County – announced its endorsement of Karen Bass for Mayor of Los Angeles.

US Representative Karen Bass has been a champion for environmental protection in Congress, leading on environmental justice bills, ensuring that those impacted the most by pollution and climate change have a seat at the table in addressing this existential threat. She has long believed that oil drilling should be phased out in Los Angeles and was one of the first elected officials to publicly call for the closure of the AllenCo facility, an urban oil drilling site in South Los Angeles that caused terrible health impacts to the surrounding community. She worked closely with community organizers, Senator Barbara Boxer, and federal and state regulators to permanently shut the facility down. It is that type of hands-on approach to the climate crisis that we look forward to working with when she becomes Mayor of Los Angeles.

“Congresswoman Karen Bass has a track record of supporting key environmental policies and legislation, such as water infrastructure investments in the latest infrastructure package and responding to the drought. She wants to invest in green jobs and small businesses, green buildings, address equity and income inequality through the climate agenda, and supports EVs and charging stations, especially improving access for communities of color. She is an advocate for environmental justice,” said LALCV President Shona Ganguly.

“It is our responsibility to protect this planet, which is why I’m grateful to have earned the support of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters,” said Congresswoman Karen Bass. “As rising temperatures and extreme drought create health emergencies, drive displacement, destroy jobs, and threaten livelihoods, it is imperative that we take immediate action to defeat climate change and serve as a model for cities throughout the world. As Mayor, I will lead Los Angeles to a new era of sustainability that supports frontline communities, makes major investments in energy efficiency, and creates thousands of good-paying jobs in the process — and I look forward to working with the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters to get the job done.”
