LOS ANGELES COUNTY (September 20, 2020) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – supporting pro-environment candidates and measures throughout Los Angeles County – announced its endorsement of Measure US in the City of Long Beach.
If adopted by voters, the 15-cent tax would go toward funding health equity, youth, and climate-related initiatives in the city. The choice to target those issues was largely driven by the nationwide protests that have occurred since late May calling for reforms and investments in underfunded communities. With the threat of climate change, inequitable access to resources and opportunities, and the dire need for resilient infrastructure, more funding is crucial to address these challenges.
“With declining tax revenues to support local investments, Measure US is critical for continued climate action, improving community health, and prioritizing social justice in Long Beach,” said LALCV Vice President Shona Calzada Ganguly.
“Yes on US is excited to receive Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters’ endorsement. In this upcoming election, Long Beach has the opportunity to stand up for social equity and environmental justice. Measure US will help ensure all residents benefit from improved air and water quality and help protect them from climate change effects. Thank you, Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, for supporting our climate action efforts,” said Long Beach Councilmember Rex Richardson, Yes on US Campaign Chair.
