Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters endorses Louis Reyes for Mayor and Yasmin Ferrada for City Council District 3 in Whittier

LOS ANGELES (February 9, 2020) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – which has supported pro-environment local candidates throughout Los Angeles County for more than four decades – today announced its endorsement of Louis Reyes for Mayor and Yasmin Ferrada for City Council District 3 in Whittier in the upcoming March 3rd election.

Reyes and Ferrada both oppose oil drilling in the Whittier Hills and support protecting access to open space for their community. Reyes is committed to improving public transportation, providing clean water, and addressing homelessness by treating people with dignity and respect. He has served as a board member of Sustainable City. Ferrada aims to revisit the city’s homelessness plan, stopping incompatible development, make Whittier a leader in clean, green energy, and update recycling practices. As a student affairs professional, she has served students in higher education and has learned how to proactively engage community members in Whittier.

Louis and Yasmin will be voices for environmental sustainability in Whittier. Louis brings his years of experience working for the state legislature and in regional policy to the role of Mayor of Whittier, while working to reduce the city’s carbon footprint. Yasmin is a community-based leader focused on environmental justice and the transition to electric vehicles and charging stations,” said LALCV President Michael Kadish.

“I am committed to championing environmental justice policies as Whittier Mayor. We must take a stand against drilling for oil in our Whittier Hills, preserve our open spaces, and work towards executing a sustainable plan that uses 100% clean, renewable energy in Whittier. I am extremely honored to have the endorsement of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters,” said Whittier City Mayor candidate Louis Reyes.

“I am so grateful to have received the endorsement of the LALCV. I believe our mission for Whittier should not simply be to not drill in our hills, but to catch up with neighboring cities in terms of environmental responsibility and proactive approaches to reducing our carbon footprint. That is how we move Whittier, forward,” said Whittier City Council candidate Yasmin Ferrada.
