L.A. League of Conservation Voters Endorses LA County’s Yes on W Measure in the November Election

L.A. COUNTY – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – which has supported pro-environment municipal candidates in Los Angeles County for more than three decades – today announced its endorsement of Yes on W in Los Angeles County on the November 6th election.

“It is critical for us to invest in clean water for LA County residents. If it passes, Measure W will improve our water supply, protect public health by keeping pollutants out of our water, utilize nature-based solutions to achieve water quality mandates, and invest in our communities. It will help us prepare for future droughts by allowing us to capture, use more rain water and better recycle our existing water,” said LALCV President Stephanie Molen.

LALCV supports the objectives of keeping trash, liquid toxins, and pharmaceuticals out of storm drains, safeguarding clean water for both urban uses and recreation. Measure W will protect and increase safe and healthy drinking water by cleaning up the sources of pollution that threaten our water supply. Dirty stormwater runoff adds trash and toxins to some of LA’s most polluted waterways, which impact the health of some of our most vulnerable populations such as children and seniors.

Every year more than 100 billion gallons of rain water flow down our gutters and into the ocean. Measure W will allow us to save more – enough to meet the needs of more than 2.5 million people for one year. Measure W will protect Los Angeles County rivers, lakes and beaches by reducing stormwater pollution. All of our region’s major rivers and creeks suffer from dangerous contamination due to polluted and toxic runoff that makes them unsafe for humans and toxic to marine life. Measure W will help prevent and filter these toxins before they enter local waterways, dump into our coastal waters and flow onto our beaches.
