The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV), that supports pro-environmental candidates throughout Los Angeles County, announces its endorsement of Maria Gutzeit for Director, Division Four, Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency.
The Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency delivers imported water to retail water agencies across 197 square miles of the Santa Clarita Valley, operates two water treatment plants and 45 wells. Leadership of this drinking water system that faces challenges of emerging contaminants, rising costs, and infrastructure deficits demands an exceptionally qualified person.
Maria Gutzeit has led the Santa Clarita Valley Groundwater Agency and, in that role, has improved customer access to drought information, and strengthened rebate and conservation programs. To develop more certainty in accounting for stored groundwater, she has led that agency and California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife in improving their systems. “Ms. Gutzeit is a fierce advocate for both her neighbors’ interests and for the health of natural systems, and we are proud to endorse her,” stated Maro Kakoussian, President, LALCV.
