Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters Endorses Alex Fisch and Freddy Puza for Culver City Council

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA  — The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) — supporting pro-environment candidates throughout Los Angeles County — announced its endorsement of Alex Fisch and Freddy Puza representing Culver City Council.

“LALCV has been endorsing environmental leaders in Culver City for years, and Alex Fisch and Freddy Puza are no exception. They are both dedicated climate champions. Fisch has a proven track record ensuring that our communities have access to clean water, air, sustainable modes of transportation, and renewable energy. Puza is committed to making sidewalks and bike lanes safe, shutting down oil fields, using solar and wind energy, and leaning on scientists and data to inform decision-making. They both understand the importance of an all-electric fleet and trees for cooling as we face unprecedented urban heat as well as conserving water and having drought-resilient landscapes,” said LALCV President Shona Ganguly.

“This is a moment of both great need for courageous environmentalism and opportunity for local government to act, and leverage federal and state dollars, for real climate action and clean air and water. I am proud to have earned LALCV’s endorsement and look forward to continuing to demonstrate the great things that cities can achieve with well-informed leadership that is not beholden to corporate interests,” said Councilmember Alex Fisch.

During Fisch’s first term, Culver City enacted ordinances to end oil drilling within the city’s borders, phase out the use of single-use plastics, and require new commercial development to contribute financially to new mobility solutions. Culver City also expanded its public transportation service and active transportation options, instituted its first ever bus lane, completed a 19 acre-feet stormwater capture and treatment project, created and began executing a plan to electrify its transportation fleet by 2028, and revised its planning practices to encourage reduction in vehicle miles traveled.

“I’m very honored to be endorsed by the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters. LALCV has been on the front lines as champions of environmental activism due to a deep understanding of the extreme urgency of climate change. If elected, I will be a strong partner in continuing this work, and support a more environmentally progressive agenda for Culver City and the region,” said Freddy Puza.

Freddy Puza currently serves on the Culver City General Plan Advisory Committee. Throughout his involvement with this body, it has been critical to ensure that environmental and sustainability issues are front and center. He believes that these issues must undergird planning for our city’s future. He has regularly spoken up during city council meetings in opposition to the Inglewood Oil Field and has advocated for many green initiatives, ranging from community gardens and recycling to strengthening alternative mobility infrastructure and REACH codes. His understanding of the intersectional nature of sustainability and environmental justice has been
broadened by his activism in various political clubs and organizations. As a delegate representing the 54th Assembly District in the California State Democratic Party, he has supported many bills, ranging from the decarbonization of buildings and outlawing single use plastics to banning fracking and protecting our precious air, land, and water. In particular, he is committed to seeing that the portion of the Inglewood Oil Field (IOF) located in Culver City is completely and safely closed, and that there is a just transition for all IOF workers; increasing housing production at all economic levels so people can live closer to where they work, attend school, and play, which will help reduce trips made by cars, and by supporting alternative transportation options, meaningfully reducing our carbon footprint; and working to require electrification of all new construction and public transit to improving energy efficiency in all city operations.
