L.A. COUNTY – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) has endorsed Hilda Solis in her race for Los Angeles County Supervisor, District 1, in the upcoming 2014 election. LALCV chose to make an early endorsement based on the strength of Solis’s environmental qualifications.
“Hilda Solis is a true environmental champion who will be an exceptional Los Angeles County Supervisor,” said LALCV President Tom Eisenhauer. “Secretary Solis has an unmatched track-record of courageous, effective and far-reaching pro-environment leadership, and the people of Los Angeles County will benefit from her expertise on environmental, public health and economic justice issues. They will also benefit from her years of service in Sacramento and Washington. She’s proven she knows the issues that matter to the people she serves, and she knows how to deliver for them.”
Solis was U.S. Secretary of Labor from 2009-2013, becoming the first Latina to serve in the United States Cabinet. Prior to confirmation as Secretary of Labor, Solis represented the 32nd Congressional District in California, a position she held from 2001 to 2009
Solis is the author of numerous environmental laws, including the bill designating the San Gabriel Mountains as a National Recreation Area. Also, she authored the Green Jobs Act that provided “green” collar job training for veterans, displaced workers, at risk youth, and low-income Americans. Solis was the first woman to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for her work on environmental justice issues.
