L.A. COUNTY – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – which has supported pro-environment municipal candidates in Los Angeles County for more than three decades – today announced its endorsement of Alex Johnson in the race for the District 1 seat on the School Board of the Los Angeles Unified School District. The primary election is June 3.
“Alex Johnson understands the connection between improving public education and sustainability – that LAUSD can save money, conserve natural resources and prepare our children for the future,” said Tessa Charnofsky, the LALCV Endorsement Team Leader for this race. “He’ll make it a priority to implement bold ideas to help green LAUSD – like installing water-saving devices and rooftop solar systems on campus, and developing an environmental science curriculum that highlights the threats and opportunities created by climate change both locally and globally.”
Mr. Johnson currently serves Assistant Senior Deputy for Education and Public Safety to Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas. Previously, he worked with school instructional leaders in the New York City Department of Education. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Johnson attended public school and is the son of a retired L.A. public school teacher.
