L.A. COUNTY – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV), which has supported pro-environment municipal candidates throughout Los Angeles County for more than three decades, announced today it has endorsed Bonnie Lowenthal for Mayor of the City of Long Beach in the upcoming 2014 election.
“Bonnie Lowenthal is a true environmental champion who will be an exceptional Mayor for Long Beach,” said LALCV President Tom Eisenhauer. “Bonnie has an unmatched track record of courageous, effective and far-reaching pro-environment leadership, and Long Beach will benefit from her expertise on the environmental, public health and economic justice. She knows the issues that matter to people, and she knows how to deliver.”
Lowenthal served as a Long Beach Unified School Board Member (1992-2000), a Long Beach City Councilmember (2001-2008) and as an Assemblymember (2008-present).
Lowenthal is the author of numerous environmental laws, including policies introducing “dockside plug-in” power for visiting ships at the Port of Long Beach, creating a “green building resource center” in Long Beach and adding more than 30 acres of new parkland to Long Beach. She authored the state law (AB 462) that helped clean up pollution from school buses that affect children’s health.
