Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters Endorses Mayra Aguiluz, Eddie De La Riva, and Heber Marquez for Maywood City Council

LOS ANGELES (October 20, 2022)– The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – supporting pro-environment candidates throughout Los Angeles County – announced its endorsement of Mayra Aguiluz, Eddie De La Riva, and Heber Marquez for Maywood City Council.

“It is an honor and pleasure to be endorsed by LALCV. I stand with the values of preserving and protecting our environment,” said Mayra Aguiluz.

Mayra Aguiluz plans on making the City of Maywood more sustainable for our residents and on bringing in more equitable resources for our environment and community. She plans on bringing the first-ever community garden to the City of Maywood. Her experience with working youth and the environment has paved the way for being intentional and mindful of our environment.

“With so many environmental justice issues facing Maywood and the Southeast, having the endorsement of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, is a testament to the work we are doing in Maywood to fight for clean air, clean water, and a better environment for us all!” said Eddie De La Riva.

Eddie De LA Riva has a close working relationship with Grid Alternatives, which led to Maywood applying for a BOOST grant, which we are using to create our sustainability plan. His goals for his next term include building a cooling station that will be powered by solar energy so that the community’s seniors can come on hot days. He has been meeting with vendors that will help them convert City Hall to solar power as well as overhaul and update the HVAC system to make it greener.

“LALCV, your endorsement reassures my commitment to learning about our environment and confirms my support for policy that prioritizes the environment and how it impacts my community,” said Heber Marquez.

Heber Marquez understands that he must continue learning about policy and programs about issues that affect the environment. He has applied to WELL to learn about water issues and policy in California in order to support my community better. He will continue to advocate at the state level for funding soil clean-up from Exide lead contamination in Maywood and also continue pushing for a cleaner air 710 freeway.
