Juan Muñoz (he/him/his) – former Secretary
Juan Muñoz is a Research Consultant for the Los Angeles Alliance for A New Economy and works closely with UNITE HERE Local 11, which is the hotel and hospitality workers union in Southern California and Arizona. Through research, he supports the union’s organizing campaigns.
Juan was born, raised and still resides in Lynwood. He is a very proud resident of Southeast Los Angeles. In Lynwood, he serves on the Public Safety, Traffic & Parking Commission, where he has sought to alleviate parking and traffic issues faced in one of the densest communities in LA County. He has also been vocal on the contracting out of our police services. Juan is an advocate for remediating many of the challenges the Southeast cities face, like industrial, water and traffic pollution. The Southeast has long been burdened by the 710 Freeway as well as many other freeways/corridors that cross this region of LA. He has worked with community groups and activists on issues related to water and industrial pollution, such as in Paramount with the still ongoing Chromium-6 problems.
Juan is passionate about public transit and has sought to work with the City of Lynwood to increase ridership. As a student at UCLA, he was the Undergraduate Representative on the UCLA Transportation Services Advisory Board, where he worked to not only educate students about using transit, but also push for subsidized transit passes to create a financial incentive to choose transit over other options.
Juan was recently appointed as an alternate member for the LA County Democratic Party Central Committee. Since a young age, Juan has worked on multiple political campaigns. In addition, he is a member of the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter. Juan graduated in 2019 from the University of California, Los Angeles summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and minors in Labor Studies and Civic Engagement.
