Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters endorses
Diane Trautman and Logan Smith
for Santa Clarita City Council
(Los Angeles County) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – which has supported pro-environment local candidates throughout Los Angeles County for more than three decades – today announced its endorsement of Diane Trautman and Logan Smith for election to the Santa Clarita City Council in the November 6 election.
“Diane Trautman and Logan Smith will strive to balance smart growth in Santa Clarita with open space protection, water quality and supply, renewable energy, and transit development to foster a more resilient city. Both Diane and Logan have fought to stop the CEMEX mining project and the Chiquita Canyon Landfill expansion in Val Verde to prevent negative environmental impacts. Also, the cleanup of the contaminated Whittaker Bermite site is a priority for both candidates, which would protect community and ecosystem health,” said LALCV Vice President Shona Ganguly.
Both candidates understand the urgency of climate change, the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve local water resources. They have been and will continue to advocate for Community Choice Energy and for the city to join the Clean Power Alliance of Southern California. Efforts to protect and connect open space like the National Park Service’s Rim of the Valley Corridor Plan are at the center of these conservation-minded candidates’ platforms.
Diane Trautman served on Santa Clarita’s Planning Commission for 12 years and is a member of the Save Open Space Committee where she rallies support to acquire and preserve public lands. She is a member of the Santa Clarita Sierra Club Group and serves on the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter Political Committee. She will work to update Santa Clarita’s Climate Action Plan and support projects to advance its goals.
“Diane Trautman is committed to conservation, climate resilience, and water reliability, while also being deeply engaged in multiple organizations and efforts, including the arts, education, care for seniors, medical ethics, equity for girls and women, community advocacy, and neighborhood empowerment,” said Ganguly.
Logan Smith has experience connecting directly with communities in his work as an organizer for NextGen America (formerly NextGen Climate). He worked at the California Clean Money Campaign to help pass a campaign finance disclosure law in California, which diminishes fossil fuel interests’ ability to interfere in campaigns and ballot measure advertising.
“Logan Smith will bring a fresh perspective on water, transit, and housing issues to city hall. He has the ability to mobilize community members and engage them to participate in grassroots efforts to advance conservation priorities from preventing landfill expansion to offering clean energy options to combatting unsustainable development,” said Ganguly.
