LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA (March 30, 2022)– The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) — which has supported pro-environment local candidates throughout Los Angeles County for more than four decades — is proud to announce its dual endorsement of Senator Henry Stern and Councilmember Lindsey P. Horvath for Los Angeles County Supervisor, District 3.
Senator Stern and Councilmember Horvath both have a proven track record of environmental leadership and are champions of critical issues such as the fight against climate change. They would ensure that Supervisor Sheila Kuehl’s legacy of environmental action would continue.
Councilmember Horvath is a strong local leader on environmental issues stemming from her tenure as the Mayor of West Hollywood. She has experience building coalitions with diverse groups to achieve positive outcomes. She has served as the President of the statewide Contract Cities Association as a founding member of the Board of the Clean Power Alliance (CPA) and as Chair of CPA’s Legislative & Regulatory Committee. Through her service she has gained expertise on a variety of environmental issues, including air pollution, transit, sustainability, resilience, parks and open space, and the impacts of climate change on residents.
“Los Angeles County needs leaders who are connected to our communities, who understand our concerns and share our values. Lindsey Horvath has experience not only at the local level – which is critically important in this race — but also the commitment to protecting and preserving our environment throughout Los Angeles County and beyond. We trust that she will do right by our environment and every community across the County,” said Shona Ganguly, LALCV President.
“Fighting climate change will take all of us working together to make a meaningful difference. The next Supervisor for LA County District 3 will have the immense responsibility of implementing policies that hold us accountable to achieving our environmental goals. I am incredibly honored to receive the endorsement and have the trust of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters, who are committed to preserving and protecting the environment, as we continue building a strong coalition and creating a more sustainable LA County,” said Councilmember Lindsey P. Horvath.
Senator Stern has a proven track record on championing environmental issues in the state legislature, as seen through his 100% voting record on key environmental legislation from the California Environmental Scorecard. He has stepped up in the tough battles in Sacramento even when it meant taking on powerful opponents like the oil and gas industry. He has been a lifelong environmentalist dating back to a junior internship at NRDC when he was 12 years old and continues with his position as Chair of the California Senate’s Natural Resources and Water Committee now.
“Senator Stern understands why it is so critical to act now on climate and to champion environmental priorities in the legislative process. He has been a leader on key issues that are most important to residents, including wildfire prevention and resiliency, clean air and water, climate change, and housing to address homelessness. He understands that these issues are intersectional and require environmental leadership,” said Shona Ganguly, LALCV President.
“From wildfires and extreme heat in Chatsworth and Sylmar, to oil and gas pollution in Pico and Porter Ranch, to the protection of open space from Pacoima to the Palisades, the next LA County Supervisor for this region has a central role in making our climate future just and resilient. Because the stakes are so high, I’m honored by the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters’ endorsement,” said Senator Henry Stern.
