Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters endorses Yes on Measure LA

LOS ANGELES (October 21, 2022)– The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) continues its support of pro-environment candidates and initiatives in Los Angeles County with its announcement to endorse Yes on Measure LA.

If approved on November 8, Measure LA will upgrade and repair all nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District (“LACCD”) and fund urgent repairs to keep the colleges safe for learning including upgrading outdated infrastructure, improving earthquake safety, and it aligns LACCD with California’s environmental goals to eliminate on-site combustion of fossil fuels and utilize clean renewable electricity by 2030 and zero carbon energy by 2040.

“Measure LA will advance the goal of reaching carbon neutrality, increase on-site electricity generation and reduce dependency on single-occupancy vehicles,” says Shona Ganguly, LALCV Board President.  “As the region’s workforce development leader, students at LACCD will have the advantage of learning in a living lab environment surrounded by the latest technology and systems to be ready for tomorrow’s green jobs.”

Measure LA provides LACCD an opportunity to address past inequities by reducing environmental pollution in the low-income communities the colleges serve.  Furthermore, it will advance educational programs that train the next generation of scientists, architects, engineers, trades men and women, and policymakers that will address our generation’s greatest challenge – global climate change.

“The LALCV’s support for Measure LA is a testament to Los Angeles Community College District’s commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Chancellor Francisco Rodriguez. “Passing Measure LA is a vital step in ensuring energy efficiency on all nine college campuses, eliminating on-site combustion of fossil fuels and utilizing clean renewable electricity in order to create more sustainable campuses. Measure LA will also expand training in green jobs so that our students are prepared to fight climate change and create a thriving future. We are extremely proud to receive the endorsement of the Los Angeles League of Conservation of Voters.”
