Jorgel Chavez Bell GardensLOS ANGELES COUNTY (September 20, 2020) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – supporting pro-environment candidates throughout Los Angeles County – announced its endorsement of Jorgel Chavez for Bell Gardens City Council.

Jorgel Chavez is a life-long resident of Bell Gardens running for City Council. His campaign has placed environmental issues at the forefront and when he is elected he will be committed to creating more green spaces in the community, working with different partners in cleaning up and redeveloping the brownfields in Bell Gardens, as well as using his position to advocate on 710 Freeway issues.

We are elated to announce our endorsement of Jorgel Chavez in his bid for Bell Gardens City Council. Jorgel has been involved in his community since an incredibly young age serving as Vice Chair for the Recreation, Cultural, and Youth Commission at the age of 16. He also worked with East Yards during high school to fight Exide and advocate for Community Alternative 7. Jorgel understands the need to push for the cleaning of the brownfield sites in his community, including the Berk Oil site, and making stronger decisions on planning and zoning, said Juan Muñoz, LALCV board secretary and lead for endorsement team.

“Our campaign is beyond grateful to have received the endorsement from this incredible organization. An endorsement from the LALCV is a testament to our campaign’s central fight for environmental justice. Residents of Bell Gardens have constantly lived with dirty air and other impacts from the 710 Freeway as well as industrial sites that surround us. It is time we get together and address these long-held concerns as we cannot afford any more of our people in the Southeast living with asthma and other health conditions, said Jorgel Chavez.
