LOS ANGELES COUNTY Jan. 16, 2024 — The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – supporting pro-environment candidates throughout Los Angeles County –  announced its endorsement of Jeff Chemerinsky for Los Angeles District Attorney.

Chemerinsky has served as Assistant United States Attorney for the past 10 tears. His experience in prosecuting companies that cause direct harm to the environment and surrounding communities have included high profile cases that would enable him to bring needed experience to the office. He is committed to prioritizing these crimes in a way that not only prosecutes offenders, but uses sentences as a deterrent, reinforcing the importance of environmental regulations. He also believes the office can play a stronger legislative role in the environmental arena by pushing for local, state and federal laws and creating dedicated task forces to tackle these issues.

“Jeff is a highly-respected prosecutor who has shown he has the experience and commitment to uphold California’s strong environmental laws; while at the DA, he prioritized investigating and prosecuting those that break these laws,” said Shona Ganguly, President of LALCV. “Jeff is also a progressive who wants to continue the criminal justice reform. We are proud to support him in this race.”

His endorsements include the current City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto, City Councilmembers like Bob Blumenfield, Congressmember Mike Levin and many more. He has received numerous awards for his service, including the U.S. Department of Justice’s Director’s Award – the DOJ’s second highest honor. He is also a two-time recipient of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Victim Service Award, which honors individuals, organizations, teams, and programs that work in support of victims and survivors of crime.

“I’m deeply honored to receive the influential endorsement of the Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters,” said Assistant United States Attorney Jeff Chemerinksy. “California has landmark environmental laws and regulations, but they require diligent enforcement, and that will be a top priority as LA County District Attorney. Environmental protection has always been important to me, and if elected, I will be tireless in my pursuit of environmental justice for our communities.”
