Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters Opposes Measure S

(Los Angeles, CA) – The Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) – which has supported pro-environment local candidates and issues throughout Los Angeles County for more than three decades – today announced its opposition to Measure S, the risky housing ban that will appear on the March ballot in the City of Los Angeles.

“Measure S is an extreme housing ban that simply goes too far – and risks driving up housing costs, increasing homelessness and making Los Angeles a less livable city,” said LALCV President Tom Eisenhauer. “Instead of a dangerous ban on housing, we need to work together to make Los Angeles a better, more affordable place to live.”

Measure S will place a two-year ban on all construction requiring a General Plan amendment, zone change, or adjustment to height restrictions, which accounts for more than one-third of all construction in Los Angeles and most commonly transit-oriented development. Reports by the Los Angeles Times have also stated that Measure S will block 90% of the city’s planned housing for addressing LA’s homelessness crisis and make it impossible to build voter-approved plans through Proposition HHH and JJJ, which would increase affordable and permanent supportive housing.
